A banana a day keeps the doctors away

Banana

Its a powerhouse of nutrients, a rich source of cardio-protective potassium, magnesium and niacin. They enhance the body’s ability to absorb calcium and also increase brain chemicals that counter depression owing to tryptophan content. It contains carbohydrate, sugar and fiber, which makes it the most easily digestible fruit .Earlier, the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” now aptly applies to banana (owing to high cost of apples which makes it difficult for common people’s reach) i.e. “A banana a day keeps the doctors away”…….

So, go for bananas, and include them in your daily diet.

TEEPZ: Have a banana post work-out as an instant energy booster!!

Black salt Therapy – Teepz

Salt they say, is essential for life, and saltiness, one of the basic human tastes. The popular table salt, a refined salt, contains about 97 to 99 percent sodium chloride, which is not good for health, and therefore, doctors recommend that salt should be consumed in limited quantities especially by those who suffer from high blood pressure and kidney related ailments.

No need to worry, the black salt or popularly called ‘kala namak’ in Indian kitchens can come to your rescue!! It has immense health benefits:

  • It has a coolant effect on body, so, consume it during summers to keep heat at bay.
  • It helps in digestion, constipation, bloating and gas problems and acts as an effective laxative that’s why it’s an important ingredient in various churans and digestive pills.
  • It helps in clearing sore throat and clogged nose.
  • It’s an amazing antidote to acidity and heart burn owing to its alkaline nature.
  • It helps in thinning of blood thus aiding in proper circulation of blood helping in cardiovascular disease.
  • As black salt is less in sodium (as compared to table salt) and rich in potassium, it helps in relieving muscle cramps.
  • It is rich in minerals, that boost hair growth and strengthen the hair.
  • An effective remedy for joint pains when used as a heating pad.

Teepz for Rewiring the Brain: Fight Negative Emotions

“Every now and then
Difficult situations in life
Surround us
Filled with pain,
Engrossed in fear,
We continue…
And life like an unfaithful partner
Continues to hit us where it hurts most”
Dunija Rothschild

You will not find a single person in the world who has not been hit by life, the miseries and sufferings of life are universal. But as Buddha discovered about 2500 years ago, there is a way out. Today, we know it is mindfulness. A technique perfected and practiced by many meditation practioners.

Mindfulness is not difficult, rather it is very easy and by habitualizing the following seven points in your life you can change your life for good. In the starting it may seem a little difficult, but keep these Teepz infront of you every day and slowly you will discover the changed you:

  1. Practice Gratitude: Be grateful for the blessings you received. And believe me there are many things to be grateful for. Being grateful reminds you to enjoy what you have. Start the day by writing down three things that you are grateful for when you wake up.
  2. Strectch and Release:  This will help you anchor to the present moment. To practice clench your hands into tight fists, stretch your legs and hands, stay in strectched position for 10s and then release. Repeat the process of stretch and release for roughly 3 times. An important  thing to remember is release slowly.
  3. Notice the Environment: During the day whenever you get the time take your eyes off you, explore the world. Just notice the people, the animals, the birds, the plants, the sky any object around you. Try not to judge anyone, or anything just observe and see the wonder in it. (Atleast 5-10 minutes)
  4. Breathe Deeply: Breathing changes the way we think, try to make your breathe rythmic, the time to inhale = time to exhale. with rythm try to increase the duration of breathe.
  5. Listen, don’t just hear: Next time you are in conversation with someone, try to notice when you judge the person. Once you notice it, you can attempt to avoid judgement and instead just focus on the content of conversation.
  6. Watch what you eat: Avoid eating infront of TV. Feel your body and your senses as you eat. This way you will not only enjoy the food, but also be able to listen what food (and how much) your body needs.
  7. Mindful Shower: This is one time where you are with yourself and so the best time to start practicing mindfulness. Simply become aware of water touching your skin, flowing through your body. Feel the wonder of it, feel the ecstasy of it.

Teepz for peace

This is a small meditation I just received for someone, but as it was coming down it was clear that it can help many, and so it comes here…

We all have felt that our lives are getting busier day by day, not that we are doing something very significant, but we are busy!! Remember that this is the mind’s way to turn away eye from the problem, from the truth. Know this, and instead of becoming busy start spending time with self.

The meditation that I got is based on Thich Haht Nanh Song:
The song is not just to inspire but to live, feel the innocent pure laughter, that we all were born with.

Breathing in, breathing out; breathing in, breathing out
(Breath with complete awareness, be aware of the in breath, be aware of the out breathe, be aware even of the point in between)
I am blooming as a flower; I am fresh as the dew.

(Concentrate on your heart, remember your most happy memories, let the heart be fill of that happiness, let that happiness spread out from each and every part of you, your face will automatically be lighted with the smile)
I am solid as a mountain, I am firm as the earth; I am free.

(Concentrate on your solar centre, feel the strength inside, let that strength spread all over)

For time being just remember this… and feel the freedom, even if for a small time from all your miseries… As you go on doing it, slowly it will deepen….

Upset over an Upset tummy????

As the summers have set in, most of us must have experienced an upset stomach once in a while or so. It could range from indigestion, acidity to irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea cramps.

Don’t stress over this…..just try these:

  • Have bananas, as they are easily digestible, contain pectin, which firms bowel movements and soothes the stomach muscles.
  • Rice—White rice is best as it is easy on the sensitive digestive system and helps ease diarrhea. Also, the rice water left over after cooking rice relieves inflammation and soothes the stomach.
  • Fresh mint—helps the flow of bile juice, relax stomach muscles and aids in digestion. Boil some mint leaves in 1 cup water and have this decoction after the meals.
  • Ginger—relieves stomach cramps and diarrhea. Sip slowly warm ginger tea/ginger ale.
  • Yogurt—with a healthy dose of probiotics, it aids in digestion and reduces the uncomfortable feeling.
  • Coconut water—a natural drink that soothes the tummy and helps to replenish lost electrolytes.
  • Chamomile tea—helps to ease the pain from an upset stomach by acting as an anti-inflammatory. Chew
  • Saunf (fennel seeds) after meals as chewing releases secretion of digestive juices. Have lemon juice in a cup of warm /hot water and sip slowly. It helps in flushing out the toxins, lemon helps to break down the food and eases the work of stomach acids.

Teepz: Have light, freshly cooked meals and made with seasonal produce.

Luscious Watermelon

One of the juiciest, luscious and refreshing summer fruit is watermelon. With a green outer covering and inner red juicy flesh, this fruit is 92% water and that makes it naturally low-fat. A medium sized bowl provides just 40 calories.

  • Its red color is due to lycopene, a powerful antioxidant which reduces oxidative stress and thus helps in cardiovascular health.
  • A good source of potassium that helps to lower body temperature and blood pressure and thus having plenty in summers prevents heat stroke.
  • A great natural electrolyte which helps nerve and muscle actions.
  • Contains amino acid Citrulline which has shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in the body.
  • A wonderful source of B-carotene which helps to maintain healthy eyes and skin.
  • Rich in fiber giving a healthy digestive tract.
  • A great anti-cancer fruit owing to high vitamin-C content and lycopene, both powerful antioxidants.

Caution: Have this fruit during afternoon or morning only. Don’t have it at night as it leads to bloating and water retention during the later part of the day. Also, having in excess results in high potassium levels which result in hyperkalemia.

Teepz: Have it in salad form along with tomatoes and bell peppers or make a juice or smoothie with mint leaves and a dash of lemon.

Smoky Quartz for protection from Radiation/Chemo therapy

Cancer today has become a common man disease, every family has at least one person suffering from one or the other form of cancer. Every major Hospital today has a speciality cancer ward!!

It seems “Cancer” is the buzzword of twenty-first century.  Increase in the number of cancer patients is alarming, and would definitely be cause of concern for policy makers. But here, I provide you with a simple yet effective means of protecting oneself against the side effects of radiation/chemo therapy often given to cancer patients.

Smoky Quartz, it is a semi-precious variety of quartz, available from light grey to black color shades. This crystal has many uses from protection to divination to spiritual growth. It works at the root chakra level, giving strength to the physical body. A natural energy ground, it absorbs the negative energy and offers protection from all forms of negativity and toxins.
Being an irradiated stone, it offers protection against the negative side effects of radiation and chemo therapy.
A person undergoing radiation therapy should wear a natural smoky quartz mala or bracelet. If possible keep smoky quartz raw stones near the bed of the person receiving therapy. The weight of smoky quartz should be minimum 1/100th of person’s weight, so for a 60Kg person, the person can choose to wear a 100gm smoky quartz jewelry and keep a 0.5 Kg raw stone near the bed.
The more raw the stone is, more energy it will have.
The stone when used needs to be cleaned regularly under running water for a minute. Occasionally you can use the salt water cure to clean it, just keep the stone immersed in salt water overnight and then to charge in early morning sunlight for few hours.

Monsoon with soups

Monsoons are the best time to enjoy kadak adrak-chai along with savoury pakodas. But, don’t go overboard with the fried savoury snacks to satisfy your taste buds and appetite. Instead, another healthier way is to go for steaming hot soups. A healthy soup relaxes and soothes you whenever you are feeling low. It’s by far the most comforting food and tasty too.
One such recipe for a healthy soup is:

Colorful Rainbow soup:

A wholesome soup with a lot of colourful veggies, added fibre and vitamins for your overall well being.

Ingredients:

Tomato  — 1 & 1/2 cup puree
Carrot — 1/2 cup (fine chopped)
Broccoli — 1/2 cup (cut in florets)
Cabbage — 1/4 cup (shredded)
Mushroom — 5-6 pieces (cut into halves)
Sweet corn — 1/2 cup
French beans — 1/4 cup
Black Pepper — 1 tsp
Garlic — 1 tsp (finely chopped)
Salt — to taste
Butter — 2 tsp
Water — 4-5 cups (depending upon the consistency)

Method:

  1. Melt the butter in a sauce pan, fry garlic paste and add tomato puree and saute for 1/2 minute.
  2.  Add all the vegetables except cabbage and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  3.  Add water and simmer for 5-6  mins.
  4. Now add cabbage, bring to boil, add seasonings and salt.
  5.  Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. Serve hot.

Variations:

  • You can try replacing tomato puree with potato mash, both provide rich thick base to the soup.Potato is a rich source of potassium and other minerals
  • Can replace mushrooms with fine cut cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is an instant source of energy, very helpful in recovering from the weakness due to viral, a common monsoon ailment.
  • You can also add finely chopped garlic. This steaming cup of soup can be used when suffering from cold or sore throat.
